Major Bale (1941-2006)

Three years ago today I lost my dad. He was my hero and a damned fine person.

Here are some important things he’s missed:

1. His little girl grew up.  He never met NFL Guy or got the chance to walk me down the aisle.

2. His granddaughter got her driver’s license. ::involuntary shudder::

3. I bet he had no idea Britney Spears would ever shave her head.  And now she’s got a permanent fivehead. 

4. Bobby Bowden retired.  Oh, and Charlie Weis FINALLY got fired.  And Fisher DeBerry isn’t the head coach at Air Force any more.  Crazy, right?

5. ZOMG! Michael Jackson died, Tiger Woods is a perv and the Saints are finally good. 

I love you and miss you, Dad.

And Squeers?  Time with loved ones is precious and often short-lived.  Never, ever let it go to waste.

Grief never eases so much as you learn to adjust to it and carry it on your shoulders and in your heart as life hurtles rapidly at you.
