Bottoms up, and Merry Christmas to all!
Here’s my favorite Christmas song of all time - Fairytale of New York. The Pogues and Kirsty McColl (may she rest in peace) recorded this incredible song in 1987.
“So happy Christmas - I love you, baby. I can see a better time when all our dreams come true.”

A Design for Life
One of the greatest, most dramatic songs of the last quarter-century. The Manic Street Preachers also have a tragedy-marked history - look it up, squeeps…they’re worth reading about, I promise you.
The Manics formed in Wales in the mid-80’s. Originally a quartet, they were reduced to a trio in 1995 when their amazing lyricist Richey Edwards disappeared. He was officially pronounced dead last year, under the assumption that he committed suicide.
Tres sad. But they’ve stuck together and have a phenomenal catalog of music to their credit.
Happy Friday, squeeps!

Giving thanks to Rock ‘n Roll!
Happy Thanksgiving, Squeers! Since most of the Captains of this mystery ship are off for the holiday, I thought I’d take the liberty of gratuitously shoving my best friend’s band down your collective throats. (His band’s CD Release party was last night, sheesh!) And without further adieu, I give you the Sights. Enjoy!

Wild mood swings o’ music
First things first - yes, I have been woefully absent (depending on your point of view) from Thundersquee! this week, as my office computer and I have been well acquainted over some major projects. So I’ve been listening to a lot of Damien Rice, Elliot Smith and Freedy Johnston during this depressing period of deadlines, CSS/HTML, media pitching and hellish battles with InDesign.
For whatever reason, though, in the fall I listen to a lot of local music - and if you’re familiar with musicians from New Orleans, you’re absolutely familiar with Better than Ezra, which exploded onto the radio in the mid-90’s. They always play a local set over New Year’s each year, and this year, I resolve (see what I did there?) to see them - because they are AWESOME live. Some of their best music you may not have even heard, though - like this:
I love, love, love that the photo the maker of this video used is from Mardi Gras. Any gal living in uptown New Orleans must own a pair of wellies or galoshes - they’re imperative during the rainy, sloshy period that envelopes Carnival season.
Also? Don’t fuck with the NOPD. They’re some tough SOB’s.
Next up - some drinking music for this long weekend of Eyeblack Odyssey:
Have a great weekend, Squeers!

With a shout out to Squeer! Silent Noodles, here’s today’s Daily Bale, Emily Haines, and Metric with “Gimme Sympathy.”
And in honor of a) The Pogues playing at Voodoo Fest this year and b) Halloween, here’s “Haunted.”

Add these to your playlist NOW, and happy Friday!
First up, here’s my road trip essential suggestion for any of y’all heading out on a trip this weekend - Black Joe Lewis’ “Sugarfoot”:*
*Please note that he’s actually black and not in black face.
Next up? Well, I’ll say this - Chelsea, you may not want to click play. We’ve talked a lot about weight and body image on Thundersquee! of late, so here’s The Gossip, with “Heavy Cross”:

Don’t mess with Texas. At least not while Cait and NFL Guy are there.
In honor of the Eyeblack Odyssey’s weekend foray to Houston and College Station, here’s the fuckhot Rhett Miller (of the Dallas-based Old 97’s) and Rachel Yamagata singing “Fireflies,” which you’ll be humming all weekend.
Slainte and scotch, Squeers! (Never mind the alliteration. It’s Friday.)
