The 950th Time Is The Charm
God help the people of South Korea
As if the people of South Korea don’t have enough to worry about when it comes to living next door to Kim Jong Il, there is about to be a new menace they will have to be on the lookout for. Cha Sa-soon, a 68-year-old from Seoul, has finally passed the written driving exam. It only took her failing it 949 times to get it right. On the 950th time, she finally managed to pull a passing grade of 60% out of her ass.
Homegirl has been taking the exam nearly every day since April of 2005. Cha has laid out more then five million won (that’s $4,200 in real money) on the application fees to keep re-taking the test.
Citizens of South Korea don’t need to panic just yet, she has only passed the written exam. She still needs to take her road test! If her performance on the written exam is any example of what to expect on the driving test, the people of South Korea can breath a sigh of relief. The Mayan calendar will end and the world will be destroyed before she ever gets her license. Until then, some poor soul is going to have to take memaw out on the road.
Can you imagine being the driving instructor who gets stuck talking her out on the road? I see it going down like a 1980s buddy cop movie where she’s paired up with this old driving instructor who is closing in on retirement and bought a boat. At the end of each test as he gives her a failing grade. The car will be half on the sidewalk, or racked up on a bicycle stand, he’ll get out and start walking walking away mumbling that “he’s too old for this shit.”
I guess I have to give her credit for sticking to it. I don’t think most people would keep trying as long as she did. And I’m sure that should she ever actually get a drivers license, she won’t in ANY way reinforce the Asian driver stereotype.

Dr. Gunslider says:WTF!?, I am a first-hand witness to the fact that NO ONE in South Korea (and most of Asia for that matter) can drive. Try taking a bus in Korea, if you can handle that, then you may venture to taking a taxi.(but unless you’ve sky-dived or performed other heart pounding adrenaline activities, don’t tell the driver to “step on it”). If I lived in Seoul, there would be no reason I would need a driver’s license. The buses there are among the best in the world, along with the subway system and plenty of taxi cabs. Besides who in their right mind would try to park in Seoul? I’d rather be waterboarded and have my junk branded than to park or drive in Korea.

blah says:No shit dude! I’m amazed that people in Korea had to take a drivers test to learn how to drive that bad! Public transit is much better and SO MUCH SAFER than driving in Korea. I had to drive a HVMMWV one time and I thought I was going to lose my mind. I never did it again.

Dr. Gunslider says:I know what you mean blah, I was fortunate enough that when I drove a HVMMWV it was in a convoy and I was never on lead. I would rather commit Hari Kiri to my balls than drive solo in Korea. Other than the driving and the smell, I kinda liked the place.

blah says:I liked Korea and I looooooooove the food. I refuse to eat Korean food in the states; it just doesn’t taste the same. I got spoiled on the real stuff that everything else is just not up to snuff.
