Fox News is Going to Fire Shep Smith
Mark My Words
Y’all may be aware of the so-called war going on between Fox News and the Obama administration. The Obama administration has called out Fox News for what it is–an extension of the Republican Party. He refuses to visit Fox’s Sunday shows and is basically giving Fox the silent treatment.
And boy is Fox News pissed off about it. Recently, Glenn Beck compared Fox News workers to victims of the Holocaust, claiming that when Obama is finished persecuting Fox News workers, then Obama is going to come after you.
Run for the hills!
I don’t really care if you’re a Democrat, a Republican, or a Libertarian, you all know damn well that Fox News is not “Fair and Balanced.” It’s also not news. It’s an opinion network. I wouldn’t have such a problem with Fox News if they would be upfront about the fact that they are an opinion network. At least MSNBC has the common sense to use “The place for politics” as its tagline. This “Fair and Balanced” shit is just a blatant lie. It’s false advertising. And I wish Roger Ailes would die in a fire.
This morning, during Shep’s show, during a discussion of the gubernatorial race in New Jersey, Shep cut to a reporter, Shannon Beam, who was able to get an interview with Republican candidate for New Jersey governor, Chris Christie. Oh how lucky they were to get the interview!
When Shep asked when she would be interviewing the Democratic candidate and current governor, Jon Corzine, it was crickets time–Beam claimed that she had “multiple requests” in to the Governor’s office and that when she was able to get an interview with him, she would “let Shep know.”
Pfft.
Shep was clearly not pleased about Beam’s response: “Wow. I didn’t know that was about to happen. My apologies for the lack of balance there. If I’d had control it wouldn’t have happened.”
So there you have it, folks. One of Fox News’s own journalists pointing out the absurdity in a “Fair and Balanced” network licking the taint of a Republican candidate while giving the Heisman to a Democratic candidate.
Anyone want to make a straight-faced argument that Fox News is actually a news channel?
Poor Shep. He seems so appalled to be employed by Fox News Corp.
First the cheeseburger donut, and now it finally seems to be dawning on him that he’s working for the Republican Party’s Grand Ol’ Talking Point.
Watch it:

I voted for every election since I was 18 and you know what I did when my dude lost. I sucked it up and lived my life till next election and bitched and moaned. But I voted so I earned the right.
I got all kinds of shit living in the burbs because everyone knew I voted Obama. But half the people who wanted to know how I could do that didn’t even vote. And the people who did vote, their main complaint was, he’s pro choice. Ok, but to impeach him at this point. Say what?
But I do a pretty awesome Sara palin, everyone asked me to do it.

Papa Ganoosh says:“Impeach Obama” kills me. You know what else kills me? These stupid tea parties and all the whining about government spending when Bush was one of the biggest runaway government spending offenders since Reagan.
Hello, tax cuts for the wealthy. How you doin’?
It especially cracks me up because some of the tea partiers are the same people who think GW was the bee’s knees. A very plausible case can be made that GW LIED to force the war in Iraq. Oh yeah, i forget. It was “an intelligence failure.”
You can say that again.
It was “an intelligence failure.”
See what I did there?

CD says:*hesitantly steps up to the mic*
No disrespect intended, but I must comment.
As long as CNN and MSNBC are around, why do y’all even care about Fox News? CNN is just as “unbiased”–and by that, I mean they lean towards the left as much as Fox News leans towards the right.
But even so, they’re both private companies and they can broadcast whatever they want. If there was no audience for it, they’d be out of business.
And regarding anti-Obama bumper stickers . . . there were a LOT of anti-Bush bumper stickers between 2000 and 2008. “BUllSHit,” “Bush and Dick — Either way, we’re screwed,” “Buck Fush,” and “Not my President” immediately come to mind. Turnabout is fair play. ;-)
I don’t have an anti-Obama sticker on my car–I tend to stick to sports. But if I did, it would say “I’ll give your president the same respect you gave mine.”
That being said, I must admit that “Impeach Obama” makes absolutely no sense to me. I don’t like the guy, but right now, there are no grounds to impeach him. Besides, even if he is successfully impeached, then we are stuck with Joe Biden/Nancy Pelosi. Somehow, I don’t think that’s what those who are yelling “Impeach Obama” have in mind. ;-)
October 30th, 2009 at 4:04 PM
SeaKat says:Fair points, CD.
We on the left were just as jerky towards Bush as the right is currently being towards Obama. Of course, he embroiled us in a war based on false premises and Obama has…hmmm…tried to get everyone health insurance. But your point stands, regardless.
That’s interesting about CNN and MSNBC. I don’t regularly watch either (I don’t regularly watch TV news at all) so I haven’t noticed that bias. If it exists at ALL. ::cue scary pipe organ music:: :)

TheHobo says:I have a friend who is convinced that Obama can’t speak without teleprompters, that the stuff Obama says without the teleprompters is way worse than anything Bush ever said.
I thought about that statement, and I even tried to get him to cite where he heard it (Savage radio or some such) and the problem is I can’t actually make that make sense. I know Obama’s education background. I’ve watched him do town halls where the questions and moments aren’t actually scripted (though the other side says so), and I’ve seen him go on the Daily Show and be spontaneously funny and smart, obviously off the cuff.
But when people were tracking Bushism’s (and right now those same people are tracking Bidenisms) they had actual sources, and in many cases clips.
So, my real complaint about those who Bashed bush and those who bash Obama is that those who bashed Bush had documented reasons to do so.
And those who bash Obama are straight making shit up.
That’s not turn around is fair play. That’s people being assholes because they’re sore losers.

stopthemadness says:i think that fox news deals in outright lies in a way that neither cnn nor msnbc do. and fox persists in touting themselves as “fair and balanced” when they are anything but. fox deals in explicit misinformation. i wouldn’t care so much if they just touted themselves as an opinion network. they claim to be fair and balanced, but they essentially sponsored the tea parties, an then weeks laters, ignored the LGBT rally in dc. how is that fair and balanced? they tried to call CNN out for “missing” the story on the tea parties when one of their own photos from the rally showed the CNN tower in the frame. how is that fair and balanced? they claimed something like 1.3 million people attended the 9/12 rally when only 70K did. again, how is that fair and balanced?
and the reason i care about fox news is that they deal in dangerous and often violence-inducing rhetoric in a way that neither cnn nor msnbc do. sure, olbermann is a blowhard. but are liberals and progressives really going to take what olbermann says so much to heart that they are going to arm themselves and go shoot up some people? (a la that dude who shot up the holocaust museum?) i doubt it. the same cannot be said of beck and hannity and especially limbaugh. fox deals in explicit misinformation. he might be a muslim. he might have been born in kenya. how many times did fox news repeat the jeremiah wright bsuiness, even after every other news organization IN THE WORLD had moved on?
when you’ve got people carrying signs at protests on washington about “god bless glenn beck” and glenn beck is on tv every day saying shit like “obama is racist” and “obama has a deep seated hatred of white culture” or “obama is hitler” or “obama is going to persecute you like hitler did the jews” that sort of language inflames the more idiotic fringe of the republican party and plays upon whatever racist feelings that are already pervasive. it’s dangerous and it’s irresponsible. and i honestly get the sense that not only do they not care that their rhetoric is dangerous, but they are egging people on. (the murder of dr. tiller comes to mind.)
i don’t watch mainstream news at all… (aside from olbermann and maddow.) i get all my news from the interwebz, and mostly from the BBC and the guardian. in any event, i think you’d be hardpressed to compare anything that olbermann and maddow (and even chris matthews) say to the craziness spewing from hannity, limbaugh and beck, craziness which certain blogs debunk each and every day.
in this humble person’s opinion, of course.

ramy says:stm, you’ve very eloquently made the points i would have wanted to make on point, but in a far more… eloquent fashion…
but isn’t this part of a bigger problem?
isn’t or wasn’t there some point where corporations, governments, citizens, etc., had some kind of social obligation to benefit society in some way shape or form?
was that ever a thing, or am i just making that up?
seriously. it seems like the only purpose of anything anymore is to maximize profit and make as much money as possible even if, sometimes especially if, it’s at the expense of the general welfare of a civilization.
it makes me sick. there must have been a point where the purpose of a news source was to investigate and expose the truths of things happening in the world, not to engage in fear mongering, name calling, opinionated banter. there seems to be more people trying to expose the lives of celebrities rather than corporate malfeasance.
and wasn’t there a point where a company’s main goal would be to provide a better product, better service, protecting our resources, and our citizens from harm.
and wasn’t a bank’s purpose to hold on to your money, pay you interest, and give loans out to hard working people?
and wasn’t a drug company’s purpose to find and create cures for conditions that actually exist and to disseminate them to the world affordably…
and wasn’t a government supposed to regulate these companies to make sure they were doing all those things, unaffected by bribes and powerful businessmen, and political hacks on television?
no, i think i’m actually making all this up. that doesn’t exist.
i’m disgusted.
by everything today.

blah says:::gingerly climbs atop the soap box and clears throat::
I don’t like Fox because they just seem mean spirited and they have all those crazy sound effects that hurt my brain. I don’t like MSNBC because they are WAAAAAAAAAY to the left. CNN is frustrating to me because when they have two opposing people verbally duking it out, they drop it right as it’s getting good. Then they go to something stupid like this balloon boy shit and I just get infuriated.
News shouldn’t have a right or left. It should (operative word) be about facts and that’s it. Of course, it’s impossible to hold such a stance when you have “journalists” who are really just pretty people who can read a monitor blabbering on and making little quips here and there. Not to mention to corporations that own them who want the particular “news” being pumped out merely to reflect thier own views and standpoints.
I really hate this business about “he’s not MY president”. Well yes, fucker, he is. Bush was YOUR President, and Obama is YOUR President now (except for our Canadian and Aussie contingents of Thundersquee). It doesn’t matter if you voted for him or not, the guy in charge is still the guy in charge, and while we may not like the person, we definately need to respect the office. I didn’t like hearing all the Bush bashing at the time (even if it was deserved) he was in charge and I certainly don’t like the Obama bashing now. Once they are out of office, however, it’s a little different.
At the end of the day, that guy is my damn boss. While I don’t have to agree with all of his view’s, I certainly have a hell of a lot more respect for this country and the office he occupies than to come out sounding like a raving lunatic and wildy proclaiming some false sense of succession. Unless you and your state decide to succeed from the Union, yes, he is in fact, YOUR President.
There was an election. He won. Get the fuck over it. Everyone.

Dr. Gunslider says:I like to focus on individual journalists than networks. MSNBC is home to Joe Scaborrough (conservative) Chris Matthews (Moderate democrat) as well as Keith Olbermann and Rachel Maddow (both notably left of center). CNN TMIMO, is more balanced than MSNBC. Fox News however is shun worthy because of extreme and I would like to think thoughtless statements from people like Sean Hannity, Glenn Beck, and especially Bill O’Reilly. I’m sorry, for conservatives who enjoy those shows, but I have not heard such extreme rhetoric from left leaning pundits. It pretty much leaves me to think two things about FOX and Rush limbaugh: either it’s sour grapes, or sycophantic rallying cries.

The difference between STM and Glen Beck are glaringly obvious - one is a pundit for the right wing who is paid with every vile word that drips from his mouth. There is no arguing or difference of opinion allowed or alloted any time during his nationally syndicated television show on a news station known for it’s staunch conservative base.
The other is a private citizen on a blog who allows for open dialogue and receives no payment for it; quite the contrary. The fact that people are allowed to disagree and come to a mutual “we agree to disagree” consensus is far more applaudable than the ravings of a mad man who screams “Get off my phone” to callers on his national radio show that disagree with him.
Your argument is invalid.
October 31st, 2009 at 12:57 PM
stopthemadness says:chelsea-
you are wrong. anyone with any sort of comprehension skills knows that.
and doesn’t it make you wonder why YOU are the only person that people insult here? whether it be the hags, or Dr. G. or Rev. Random, all you do is insult, attack, and offend. It’s so unpleasant and it just adds tension and bad vibes to the comment section of this blog and that pisses me off. I had hoped that someday you would mellow out, but as yet that hasn’t happened and I doubt it ever will.
So while you’re lobbing accusations at ME, maybe you should shine your bright light of knowledge inward and figure out the reason that people don’t want to talk to you is because you’re rude. You do nothing but insult people, driving people to insult you back. On the contrary, people don’t seem to have any problem interacting with me here. Why do you think that is?
As for me, I often admit when I’m wrong. And when I feel I’ve insulted someone, I apologize. Go read my damn post from Thursday, smarty pants. You’ll see how wrong and pig-headed you are.
Furthermore, I have watched O’Reilly, I have watched Hannity, I have listened to Limbaugh, and I follow all news, whether liberal or conservative. I am liberal. What the hell is so hard for you to understand about that? Many other readers here are liberal. Does that not make sense to you? So we agree? Of course we do. We agree primarily on liberal principles. This isn’t Free Republic.
Also, we have a couple conservatives. I try to be respectful to them and when I’m not, I apologize. I think those people understand that.
But you… where are your apologies, chelsea? You’ve insulted almost every commenter and hag here. So you really ought to quit making such ridiculous statements. You’re not making yourself seem intelligent. And I would bet my ass that every time a person reads your comments they roll their eyes in dramatic fashion. So, when you lob accusations at people, make sure you know what the hell it is you are talking about first because it seems to me that you rarely do.
My posts are well researched and brimming with facts. I’ve yet to see you advance a single fact in support of any of the ridiculous things you say. You complain about being insulted, but all you do is insult people.
As for your (attempted) Glenn Beck analogy, when Thundersquee! starts touting itself as “Fair and Balanced News” or when I start getting paid millions to spew hate in a public forum, and when people look to me as a source of news and I fill their heads with lies and vitriol, then maybe I’ll pay one whit of attention to what you said. And maybe then I’ll even interact with you in a civil manner. But until then, you’re going to continue to make wild claims that anyone with half a brain will be able to see are abjectly false. I say “you will” do so because despite requests for years that you act and talk civilly to people, whether it be on Mollygood or here, you refuse to do so. All you do is attack attack attack and when you get frustrated ZOMG IT’S ALLCAPS TIME. It’s annoying. I’m tired of putting up with it. I’m tired of trying to respect or like you. The occasionally funny comment aside, the rest of your comments are obnoxious.
So this IS my last and final word to you. Whether you stick around to read my posts is your choice; I frankly don’t give a shit. But you can be damn sure I will no longer be responding to your vile nonsense.
stopthemadness
p.s. go look up the word dichotomy. i do not think it means what you think it means.

I still will continue to eat greasy tacos, extra crispy chicken breasts and yummy delicious biscuits and yum yum yummy beef `n cheddar sammichs regardless of what people say. I subscribe to the “if i didn’t see it happen” and “i don’t see it on my bun” then it doesn’t exist.

ramy says:i too subscribe to the i didn’t see it it’s not really there in my food.
there’s an old (way old) snl skit where dana carvey dies and goes to heaven and god allows him to ask any question he wants, so dana asks what the grossest thing he’s ever unknowingly eaten was, and god refuses to answer, he continues to ask, and then finally god says he’ll tell him the 435th grossest thing he’s ever eaten… does anybody remember this?

Jujubees says:I used to work at, Roy Rogers, I stopped eating there after. Never work at places where you love to eat. It’s a fun killer. I smelled like fries for months.
I have to say to, cd, I didn’t really see much in the way of Bush hating bumper stickers in, Texas. Just sayin. But I’m sure there were a lot across the country.

Mae says:i’ve never worked at a fast food joint, but i’ve worked at many a bar/restaurant from a denny’s type places to uppity restaurants. i think the worst is this place where the chef would get food (chicken)that he previously threw in the trash can out and re-cook it if it was close to closing time. oh, and i’ve seen the occasional piece of meat fall on the ground before being cooked. i’ve never actually seen anyone spat upon or in food. granted, i always spent as little a time in the back of the house as possible because everyone i’ve ever worked with who was in the back of the house was friggin’ weird, but nearly everyone i know who has worked in the hospitality industry has agreed that the movie “waiting” wasn’t at all that far fetched.
i probably just ruined everyone’s dining experiences.

stopthemadness says:i love how a thread about fox news has morphed into a thread about the relative benefits of arby’s sammiches and whether those sammiches do or do not contain cheese-covered mouse droppings.

Mae says:fox news isn’t as interesting.

SeaKat says:Well, to be fair, Fox News is created FROM mouse droppings. They just eliminated the cheese. Because Glenn Beck is lactose-intolerant.*
*Allegedly.
