Thundersquee’s Favorite Halloween Movies
ZOMG, hide behind your couch!
This is a weekend for voodoo, music, football, Oktoberfest and drunkenly handing out candy to kids dressed as Hannah Montana. Or drinking profusely and pelting eggs at people’s houses.
Your call, really.
We here at Thundersquee! also feel that it’s a weekend for binging on pumpkin cookies and movies.
So grab some candy corn and a ice cold beer, and snuggle into the couch for our favorite Halloween movies.
The Others
The Shining
The Exorcist
Phantasm
The Serpent and the Rainbow
Army of Darkness
Bubba Ho-Tep (rule of thumb: if it stars Bruce Campbell, it’s probably awesome)
Hellraiser
Puppetmaster (not safe for work - there is nudity)
28 Days Later
Lady in White (this film is a gem - go rent it NOW)
The Devil’s Backbone
The Amityville Horror
Let the Right One In
May
The Good Son
The Bad Seed
Candyman
Sleepaway Camp
Haunted
The Innocents
Slither
Honorable Mentions
The Witches, Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm Street, Rear Window, The Omen, Halloween, Evil Dead II, Dawn of the Dead (the remake), Alien, The Ring, The Piano Player, It, Quarantine, Donnie Darko, Heathers, Dead Ringers, The Blair Witch Project

Cait says:That’s because it’s scared.
And hiding behind your couch.
WITH your beer, I might add.

SeaKat says:I don’t have any favorite scary movies because I am a huge wussy.
Seriously. I think the animated version of The Hobbit scarred me for life when I was 5.

Cait says:For me it was always The Dark Crystal.
I think Henson must have been dropping acid around that point…
October 28th, 2009 at 1:39 PM
SeaKat says:Oooh. That reminds me of Labrynth which I saw in Jr. High or so.
It was kinda/sorta scary…and David Bowie made me feel kinda tingly and breathless. ::sigh::

Cristal Methodd says:Scary movies? Cristal no likey.
Heathers is scary? How could it be scary? It takes place in Ohio! :P
Donnie Darko always freaked me out because I never watched the movie the whole way through. Once I did, I loved it to Reese’s pieces and bought it on DVD.
The Shining gave me the chills when I watched it at my grandmother’s house in the middle of a summer’s day.
So my pick: Voodoo! (and beer)

Bedbugs and Ballyhoo says:Cristal, I nominated Heathers. I don’t like horror movies. *ducks* Creepy movies (like Heathers and Dead Ringers) yes! Horror movies, IMH(A)O, are only good for MST3K fodder.
I don’t like horror movies and I own a (not-a-Prius) hybrid. I think the TS firing squad is coming for me. :D

Cristal Methodd says:I don’t like horror movies either! I’ll watch Heathers with you and recycle and stuff.

Bedbugs and Ballyhoo says:You’re on. Beer bottles make great recyclables!

blah says:Oh…I hate scary movies, although I kinda enjoyed Paranormal Activity. Hey, where is that Tim Curry piece of garbage that always seems to rear it’s head around this time of year?

Sar says:Blah, you slay me! And slaying is so hot right now.

TheHobo says:Best Halloween movie ever TMIMO (although it’s good year round) is Clue. Hey, there’s like death and stuff ;-)

Sar says:Flames! on the side of my face!
October 28th, 2009 at 8:39 PM
SeaKat says:I’ve been saying that since you posted that video clip, Sar.

Jujubees says:I thought that, It, sucked. They are working on a remake of that for theatres. I feel like it’s too hard to translate that book into a movie. But Tim Curry was crazy bananas genius in that movie. On the dvd release the cast said they were creeped out by him so much they avoided him during filming. Everybody knows clowns are da bebil, mama said so.

SeaKat says:REALLY, Juju? I loved Clue! It was just so silly and goofy, as a movie based on a board game should be. TMIMO

lava says:oh i was hiding behind the couch when thriller came on. so i’ll nominate that as the scariest thing i’ve ever seen. that’s right, “seen”, because i can watch it now. i’m hardcore like that.
i actually left the theater when my friends dragged me to event horizon.

silent noodles says:Pet Cemetary! Just because it was one of the first movies that scared me so bad I slept on the couch for a week and it still scares me to this day. Also I loved Let the Right One In.

payter says:I should mention, just like my computer, scary movies are not my favorite. April Fools Day is one that I remember watching as a young payter, and the only one I think I actually watched without my hands over my face.
Sometimes I can’t watch LOST by myself. That show freaks me out. But I love it!!

nolablossom says:I was about to add a scariest top 10 to my blog too! Here’s what I would add to your list: Salem’s Lot (1979), Nosferatu, Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978), Poltergeist, and Stephen King’s It. I have not seen Lady In White so I will check that out.
See ya on the street!
October 29th, 2009 at 11:57 AM
Cait says:Nolablossom, we should rent Lady in White soon! Veggie food and scary movies FOR THE WIN!
October 29th, 2009 at 12:52 PM
TheHobo says:JuJu, are you saying Curry was in IT? Or that Clue sucked? :-P
