Concert Edition
Dudes, I am so friggen tired. Last night I accompanied the Mister to see one of his fave bands: NIN. I like NIN, but not enough to lay down that sort of cash. Mister Numberone, however, is adorably rabid, so away we went to the Jones Beach Amphitheater. It was windy and cold, but, honestly, one of the best sounding venues I have ever been to. It was a pretty amazing show.
First, enjoy this video back from when Trent wasn’t burly and Marilyn Manson wasn’t bloated.
Street Sweeper Social Club opened, and, despite the unfortunate name, they were good. Tom Morello is jaw dropping in his virtuosity. He had a guitar set up just for making space sounds and, I kid you not, played with his teeth. Normally I would laugh, and it was a bit bombastic for Morello, but it won me over. Fans of RATM should check them out - very much the same sound with less revolution.
The headliner was Jane’s Addiction. My first thought? Oh yeah, Dave Navarro actually plays guitar, I forgot. It sounded good, but the band didn’t feel quite like a unit. They are still dusty from the years apart and didn’t quite coalesce. The stage and lighting were pure 90s sex-rock psychedelia. Perry Farrell was the sassy front man we all know and love - shimmying and twirling for all he was worth. He made their set, frankly. Also, homeboy is 50!!

WhoMee says:I saw them a few weeks ago in Irvine. NiN was meh in comparison to JA. My good friend saw them last night too and said she cried during NiN’s set, because it was very spiritual.

Cait says:I’ve seen NIN maybe 5-6 times - this past year we saw him at Voodoo, and then Cristal’s friend ran into Trent at the New Orleans airport two days later…;)
